• New and noteworthy local show:
Faller | Swivel Stick | Plutonium Pie
Sunday, October 21
Gables Pub
Doors open at 8:00 p.m., bands start at 9:00 p.m.
A very reasonable $7 cover.
21+ technically, but Faller tells me the doorpeople are pretty laid-back. So if you're 21-, leave your I.D. at home, but don't tell them we told you to.
• The following show dates won't get posted on the Gray Area, as they're not taking place in South Florida. Still, they're happening close enough to us that I figured, for those of you getting the itch for an indie rock road trip extravaganza, they warranted a post.

• In website maintenance news, I just found myself a nice free server for Rock the Tropics, which means we should be moving very soon. It also means free image storage, which spells out s-n-a-z-z-y w-e-b-s-i-t-e. Which naturally doesn't mean I don't need contributors still. 'Cos I do.

I probably should be reading up on breaking news about U.S. attacks on Afghanistan instead of updating this, but you know how the media's been yammering about the importance of entertainment in times of crisis. And it's been a pretty silent week. So here you are, the latest on the South Florida indie-ish calendar. Or so I hope.

• Website news:
Hate to sound like a broken record, but I figured I'd just throw in a little reminder. Rock the Tropics is currently looking for the following:
• local show reviews
• local / pertinent album reviews
• a selfless, generous image host
• help sprucing up the website
• archives
• a logo
• love, feedback, + moral support by way of letters, guestbook entries, word of mouth, etc. Mind over matter, content over presentation, sure -- but we're visual beings after all. Bottom line: I would love some help.
• General:
So the United States offensive has begun. If you're sick of the usual talking heads and rapid-fire reporting on the teevee, turn to the 'Net for the latest. This page has a fairly comprehensive links list of the usual suspects. Don't forget IndyMedia, a (frequently questionable, but interesting) grassroots media organization which comes highly recommended by Jello Biafra (I'm dead serious).
And when it all starts getting to be too much, you know it's time for the bottle of merlot, the My Bloody Valentine, the smoke, and the deep breaths. And of course, of course, the local shows. So stay tuned.
